Spring Valley Vineyard 2009 Frederick, Walla Walla Valley, $50

This wine is named after Frederick Corkrum, father to Shari Corkrum Derby, who operates the wheat fields, vineyard and winery for this Ste. Michelle Wine Estates label. It is a red blend heavy on Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), as well as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, with opulent influence from French oak, 65% of those barrels being new. It opens with aromas of cinnamon bark, dark cherry, cedar and strawberry, followed by flavors of black cherry, vanilla, dark licorice, mint and bittersweet chocolate.
