Westport Winery NV True North, Washington, $26
By Great Northwest Wine on February 25, 2013
This destination winery on the Washington coast has a simple philosophy: Give the customer what it wants. In the case of this small producer, that means making more than 30 different wines, many of which sound like crazy concoctions – except they sell like crazy. This wine includes a blend of white Merlot and Gewürztraminer along with huckleberry and blueberry juice. The resulting wine is sweet and delicious, offering aromas of pomegranate, black cherry and boysenberry. On the palate, it unveils the huckleberry and blueberry flavors, along with raspberry and black cherry. This is what we call a “porch pounder” that would make a yummy wine spritzer.
