Northwest wineries score high in San Francisco International Wine Competition

The San Francisco International Wine Competition showcased many wines from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.

SAN FRANCISCO – Five Pacific Northwest wineries earned best-in-class awards at the prestigious 2013 San Francisco International Wine Competition.

san-francisco-international-wine-competition-logoMaryhill Winery in Goldendale, Wash., won two double gold and best-in-class awards, along with a gold medal. College Cellars, the student-run winery at Walla Walla Community College’s Center for Enology and Viticulture, picked up best in class for its 2012 Carménère. JoieFarm in Naramata, British Columbia collected best in class for its 2012 Pinot Blanc. And Tsillan Cellars in Chelan, Wash., notched a best in class and two unanimous double gold awards.

Church & State Wines on Vancouver Island won two double golds, as did Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Estate in Oliver, British Columbia. Mission Hill Family Estate received a double gold and three gold medals.

The San Francisco International Wine Competition is the largest international wine competition in the United States, drawing 4,539 entries from 29 states and 30 nations. It is run by Anthony Dias Blue, editor-in-chief of Tasting Panel magazine and a James Beard Award-winning wine writer.

Wineries from Washington, Oregon, British Columbia and Idaho won 343 total medals.

    I love that all the Okanogan wines won medals, but why is it we can not purchase these beautiful wines in western washington? and if we can, where??
