David Jones grows the single acre of estate grapes and makes the wine in partnership with Jack and Trina Myrick at their young and ultra-boutique winery in Moses Lake. Their focus is on estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, this release from their inaugural commercial vintage is beginning to hit its stride, evidenced by its gold medal at the 2013 Washington State Wine Competition in June. There’s hedonism in the heady aromas of huge mocha, blackberry syrup, vanilla bean and baking spices. On the palate, its structure is considerably more food-friendly. The addition of ripe blueberry juice makes for good acidity, and there’s just enough tannin in the background to stand up to rich meats. Suggested pairings include Tournedos Diane with a mushroom demi-glace. Look for Neppel wines in Moses Lake at Imbibe Wine & Art Bar, Michael’s Market & Bistro, Porterhouse Steakhouse and The Steakhouse at Moses Pointe.
