88. Chateau Faire Le Pont 2009 Carménère, Yakima Valley, $40
Chateau Faire Le Pont was one of the first wineries in Washington to feature an on-site restaurant. Based in Wenatchee, Faire Le Pont’s wines are made by owner Doug Brazil, who shows a deft touch with red wines in particular. Indeed, his wines are among the best being made in the North Central Washington region. This is a stunning example of Carménère, with big, inviting spices and black cherry on the nose, followed by rich, spicy and dark flavors. It’s a classic with aromas and flavors of black pepper and dark chocolate. Every Carménère should be this good.
