Andrew Martinez crafts his family’s wines at the Winemaker’s Loft in Prosser, Wash., but his father is in charge of the fruit, much of which comes from vines surrounding his home in the Horse Heaven Hills. Their flagship proprietary blend from the 2010 vintage is Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Syrah (25%) and Carménerè, and it produces aromas of blueberry, black currant, lilac, violet, creek stone and crushed oregano. There’s a pleasing continuation of the black currant and blueberry on the palate, along with elderberry. Its structure of one of firm tannins and good acidity, and the drink produces a finish of horehound and lime zest.
