Tamarack Cellars 2011 Syrah, Columbia Valley, $25

tamarack-cellars-syrah-columbia-valley-bottleDanny Gordon’s work in Walla Walla with three sites near the banks of the Columbia River — Alder Ridge, Bacchus and Destiny Ridge — makes for a bold Syrah that should float many boats. Aromas of espresso and mocha are backed by purple plums, Marionberry, baked ham and earthiness. Luscious plums and plump Marionberries provide a rich entry, then pomegranate acidity creates great length with a food-friendly finish.
