Northwest Cellars 2011 Oscuro, Columbia Valley, $44

northwest-cellars-oscuro-2011-labelBlends make up a sizable portion of the portfolio at this Kirkland-based winery, and Yakima Valley winemaker Robert Smasne took equal parts of Malbec from Verhey Vineyard and Petite Sirah from Art denHoed Vineyard to create this blackberry bomb from the Yakima Valley. Its aromatic profile also includes black cherry, Barbados sugar, violets, patchouli and sage. Inside, there’s robust entry of black currant, blackberry and Van cherry leads to a pleasing midpalate that’s backed by juicy acidity and managed tannins.
