Cairdeas Winery 2011 Gréine, Columbia Valley, $38

cairdeas-winery-greine-2011-bottleLake Chelan winemakers Charlie and Lacey Lybecker chose the Gaelic term for solar, and they’ve made this red Rhône blend of Les Collines Syrah (60%), Petite Sirah (38%) from Upland Vineyard and Viognier their flagship wine. Aromas of toasted oak, cherry cola, caramel, nutmeg and pepper led to a big and racy entry of Van cherry, plum and cranberry with a sprinkling of cocoa.
