Boomtown by Dusted Valley 2012 Syrah, Washington, $19

By on August 24, 2014

boomtown-syrah-2012-bottleWisconsin imports Chad Johnson and Corey Braunel recently hired Walla Walla-based Griffin Frey to take over as their winemaker, and it’s important he maintain the delicious standards established with this Dusted Valley brand that’s on a roll and boasting a new look. Dabs of Grenache and Malbec contribute to this wine that’s brooding with aromas of sweet oak, black cherry, brown sugar, sarsaparilla, cocoa powder and pencil shavings. The juice from a stellar vintage is rich, round and ripe with sweet blueberry, elderberry, Bing cherry and plum, wrapped in silky tannins. Look for this as a glass pour at savvy restaurants.
