One of the Milbrant brothers’ best sites near Sentinel Gap overlooking the Columbia River annually produces high-style reds for a variety of Washington winemakers, and this lot was deemed worthy of 20 months in a barrel program of 60% new French oak. That experience leads to aromas of toasted marshmallow, boysenberry, warm chocolate, sarsaparilla, allspice and lime peel. There’s more expression of fruit on the deliciously rich palate, which spans blackberry, boysenberry and red currant. Dark chocolate and savory tones come together amid ageworthy tannins. In the meantime, enjoy this with lasagne, bacon-wrapped scallops and elk burgers. It’s part of the winery’s exclusive Vineyard Series tier available via the winery’s Reserve tasting room and wine club.
