The Ritters make more delicious honey-based wines than anyone else in the Pacific Northwest, and their bottling with the official state fruit of Idaho ranks as its most popular and largest production. This couple in Moscow, is rather protective of their berry source — Noneyobusiness Ridge on Notell’em Mountain — and this version doesn’t carry quite as much residual sugar (4.75%) as their strawberry mead. Yet, it shows balance with inviting and delicious aromas and flavors of huckleberry, blueberry and Western serviceberry. And for those who don’t particularly care for the profile of mead, this huckleberry wine pushes that honey aspect into the background. It earned a silver medal this fall at the 2014 Idaho Wine Competition.
