Airfield Estates 2013 Late Harvest Riesling, Yakima Valley, $15

By on November 9, 2014

airfield-estates-late-harvest-riesling-nv-bottlePart of the Miller family’s Runway tier, a mid-November pick at 36 Brix leads to this syrupy and yummy treat that serves as worthy alternative to ice wine — at a third of the price of many. Aromas of apricot, baked apple and poached pear drizzled with honey are matched on the palate with a drop of agave nectar and sprinkles of cinnamon and nutmeg. Fermentation lasted a month, leaving the residual sugar at 20% amid ample acidity. A bottle of this — which comes in a 375-millilter format — would be a delicious complement to hard cheeses.
