Argyle Winery 2012 Master Series Spirithouse Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills, $75
This wine is named after the legend of Lena Elsie Imus, which legend says died in 1908 in the building that now is part of Argyle Winery along Highway 99W in Dundee, Ore. Strange occurrences have been reported since the 1970s – and still are today. There’s nothing spooky about this Oregon Pinot Noir, however, which uses grapes from Knudsen Vineyard – planted 40 years ago. It opens with aromas of strawberry, cherry and white strawberry, followed by delicate yet luscious flavors of red plum, red currant and minerality. Suggested pairings include tea-smoked duck breast or beef tenderloin.
