O•S Winery 2012 BSH Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $30

O•S Winery-BSH Cabernet Sauvignon-Columbia Valley-2012-LabelCo-founder/winemaker William Owen receives credit for this bottling, and the winery has recently been rebranded to reflect Rob Sullivan’s daughter, Peggy, taking over the helm at one of Seattle’s historic urban wineries. French barrels set the table initially as the aromatic profile highlights cola, coffee and black currants with hints of mint and porcini mushroom. On the palate, the focus switches to sweet blackberry, black cherry, currant and pomegranate. While the moniker is an abbreviation for “brick s—— house” — a historic reference to its sturdy structure — this bottling shows remarkable balance as sandy tannins hit the gumline, yet the fruitiness keeps pushing through to the finish of dark chocolate. Enjoy with a well-marbled steak rubbed with finely ground coffee. These wines are available at their new location in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood, wine shops through the Puget Sound, New York, North Carolina and online.
