styring-vineyards-afterglow-estate-riesling-dessert-2013-bottleThe Styring family enters its second decade of presenting a late harvest Riesling for its fans in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Ribbon Ridge winemaker Steven Styring develops this in a style that some may mistake for an ice wine from British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, starting with succulent and alluring aromas of apricot jam and a poached pear drizzled with honey. The sugary fluid also hints at flavors of orchard fruit baked with clove and cardamom. There’s pleasing sweetness at 19% residual sugar and a finish of pineapple juice that provides solid acidity.
