Champoux Vineyard, perhaps the most famous site in Washington state, and one of the most exciting — the Mercer family’s own Spice Cabinet — combine for this Rhône-style blend of Grenache (31%), Syrah (41%) and Mourvèdre. After 26 months in barrel, it exudes aromas of black licorice, roasted coffee, blackberry compote and cherry jam with a mill turn of green peppercorns and whiff of menthol. Inside, it’s a massive wine with penetrating flavors of pomegranate and blueberry, backed by Earl Grey tea, currant and smoky oak.
