Horan Estates Winery 2012 Bottoms Up Chardonnay, Yakima Valley, $20

By on December 11, 2015

Horan Estate Winery LogoThis decade-old winery named after historic Wenatchee Valley orchardist Mike Horan has boosted production by 50 percent in the past three years with Dennis and Beth Dobbs — Horan’s great granddaughter — at the helm. And this Chardonnay is fashioned for those who enjoy the toasty and buttery approach. There’s a generous offering of toffee in the aromas, along with hints of green banana, ghee and sweet nougat akin to a Big Hunk candy bar. There’s a pleasant follow through on the palate, which brings caramel and lingering lemony acidity. The finish includes lots of butterscotch candy and a lick of that Big Hunk.
