Baer Winery 2012 Arctos, Columbia Valley, $43

By on December 23, 2015

2012_Arctos_Front_SSThe legacy of the late Lance Baer lives on in Woodinville, Wash., thanks to his sister, Lisa, and father, Les, and winemaker Erica Orr, who crafted this Meritage-style blend leading with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) from Stillwater Creek Vineyard. They continue to refer to this proprietary bottling as Lance did — using the scientific name for the brown bear. And this version is a big brute, laden with hefty flavors of black and blue fruit, chocolate, spice and herbs. Savor it with a serious meal of roast, steaks or chops. This wine earned a gold medal at the 2015 Great Northwest Invitational.

Rating: Outstanding!
