le-cadeau-vineyard-merci-reserve-pinot-noir-2013-bottleTwo decades ago, the Mortimers began transforming this 28-acre site on Parrett Mountain from oak and brambleberries into a vineyard and wine program they view as “the gift” — Le Cadeau. Each year, Jim Sanders turns this assemblage into one of three reserve bottlings for the couple from Minnesota, and it offers a tasty example of how a cooler site performs in warmer vintage. Elegant tones of Montmorency cherry, red currant and blackberry are presented in a delicate style as notes of saddle leather and baking spices add complexity.
