Merry Cellars 2013 Crimson Red Wine, Washington, $28

By on May 21, 2016

merry-cellars-crimson-2013-labelGonzaga grad Patrick Merry moved to Washington State University to further his education in computer science and hasn’t left Pullman, where the hometown Cougars proudly wear crimson and gray as the school colors. He’s named this proprietary red blend accordingly, and the product of his 10th commercial vintage is a selection of five Bordeaux varieties dominated by Stillwater Creek Vineyard — a composition of Cabernet Franc (39%), Merlot (28%), Cabernet Sauvignon (17%), Malbec (11%) and Carménère. There’s a rich theme of ripe plum, cordial cherry and blackberry sauce with touches of cinnamon and vanilla, backed by good firmness and an easy finish.
