Acclaimed wine merchant Doug Charles worked with John Ramseyer’s vineyard for this final bottling from this site near the Rattlesnake Hills. The former Café Juanita manager created 10 barrels of wine that Charles purchased and had Charlie Hoppes of Fidelitas fame blend and bottle at his Wine Boss operation. There’s a balanced oak profile in the nose as black raspberry and cherry aromas mix with vanilla, allspice, sawdust and saddle leather. That segues into flavors of President plum and Marionberry that trickle over sweet tannins, pomegranate acidity and a finish of leather and Montmorency cherry. It’s not only a quaffer with Old World charm, but it’s a lasting memento that longtime customers of Compass Wines in Anacortes can revisit over time.
