Westport Winery 2014 Discovery Vineyard Surfer Syrah, Horse Heaven Hills, $28

By on October 2, 2016

westport-winery-surfer-syrah-nv-labelThe Roberts family continues to develop its coastal resort that is King 5 Evening Magazine’s three-time defending champion Best Northwest Wine Destination Tour, and the clan retain memories of its former life on Maui with this stunning Syrah from one of Washington’s most promising vineyards. Aromas of plum, Bing cherry and blueberry include accents of sage, mint, spice and pencil lead. Its ripe, cool-climate Syrah structure allows for acidity rather than tannins to take the lead as flavors open with cherry cola and Red Vines transition to a finish of blueberry, plum skins and vanilla. Servers at the on-premise Farm to Fork Restaurant will sursuggest a pairing with Kalbi Beef Ribs, and proceeds from this wine’s sales benefit the South Beach Fire and EMS.
