At 2,200 acres, the Monson family grows grapes that make their way into the cellars of some of the state’s top producers, and they produce four brands for themselves. Their Cellar Select program represents their wine club tier. Here is their Right Bank Bordeaux-style, a blend of Merlot (62%), Cabernet Franc (23%) and Cabernet Sauvignon that began with the Kendall Mix era and seen throught the finish by Andrew Wilson. There’s a pleasing dusty minerality in the aroma, often a sign of the nearby Horse Heaven Hills, as well as black cherry, cola, pine and Weetabix. On the palate, expect cassis, Montmorency cherry and raspberry flavors that are framed by the pleasing grip of ageworthy tannins. The artwork of Myrtle Falls at Mount Rainier was done by N.R. Bradley.
