Tinhorn Creek Vineyards 2013 Oldfield Series Cabernet Franc, Okanagan Valley, $32

By on February 2, 2017

Sandra Oldfield made Cabernet Franc a focus soon after she landed in British Columbia after growing up in the Bay Area and graduating from University of California-Davis. She can look down from her winery on the Golden Mile Bench and across the valley to the Black Sage Bench and their Diamondback Vineyard, the home for her traditionally graceful Cab Franc. In fact, this is arguably Tinhorn’s signature red variety throughout the Oliver winery’s 20-year history. An October harvest and 18 months in French oak allows for a fragrant nose of sweet herbs and bright red fruit with cinnamon, raising and violets. Inside, it’s delicious and suave with ripe red currant and Rainier cherry flavors, backed by raspberry acidity. Mild tannins draw you in for more.
