The Wahluke Slope continues to burnish its reputation for red wines, and Victor Palencia knows this region as well as anyone with his work for Jones of Washington and clients at his Mattawa custom-crush facility. Here, the Walla Walla Community College grad also shines with his one of his own brands. It’s a remarkably expressive example of Malbec, featuring alluring aromas of dusty Chelan cherry and blackberry with touches of wintergreen, vanilla and clove NECCO Wafer candy. The drink is quite rich, bringing flavors of plums, blueberry and Rainier cherry. Sweet milk chocolate tannins and a stream of Marionberry combine to create a medium structure capped by a long and superb finish.
