SOMM Summit International Wine and Spirits Symposium

SEATTLE – The SOMM Summit is a new wine, beer, cider and spirits educational symposium scheduled for July 9-11 at South Seattle College.

Wine and spirits enthusiasts, collectors, aficionados, sommeliers, winemakers, tasting room staff, bartenders and industry professionals are invited to attend the two-and-a-half days of seminars and tastings.

Topics and presenters include:

  • The Sparkling Wines of South Africa
  • Napa Valley Vintners presented by master sommelier David Glancy
  • Woodinville Wine Country
  • The Birth of Washington Terroir with Kevin R. Pogue, PhD., geology at Whitman College
  • Rare Wine Tasting by WineBid.com
  • The Tasting Panel Magazine Spirits Seminar
  • The SOMM Journal True Terroir Series
  • Washington State vs. The World with master of wine Joel Butler.

Additional seminars and tastings throughout the symposium make up the remainder of 20 hours of curriculum. Online registration opens Feb. 1 at www.SOMMSummit.com.

The SOMM Summit is presented by Christopher Chan. The beverage and hospitality professional spent 15 years as director of wine and spirits at Seattle’s prestigious Rainier Club. The advanced sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers has received a diploma from the International Guild of Sommeliers and is a certified specialist of wine through the Society of Wine Educators. He also produces and serves as the host of Seattle’s Happy Hour Radio, which is broadcast 6-7 p.m. Saturdays on KVI 570 AM.
