Col Solare 2008 Red Wine, Columbia Valley, $75
By Great Northwest Wine on February 21, 2013
Winemaker Marcus Notaro sourced nearly a third of the grapes for this ultrapremium red blend from Red Mountain, where Col Solare is the crown jewel amid many beautiful, high-quality wineries. Vineyards contributing from Red Mountain include Klipsun, Kiona and End of the Road Ranch. This blend leads with Cabernet Sauvignon (67%), as well as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Syrah. It opens with aromas of smoky bacon, hazelnut, lavender and blackberry, followed by flavors of black cherry, licorice and dark chocolate. Assertive tannins back up all the dark fruit flavors.
