L’Ecole No. 41 2009 Seven Hills Vineyard Estate Merlot, Walla Walla Valley, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on March 12, 2013
Seven Hills Vineyard is co-owned by L’Ecole No. 41, Leonetti Cellar and Pepper Bridge Winery, and L’Ecole owner/winemaker Marty Clubb especially loves the grapes he brings in from this site on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley. He makes no fewer than four Seven Hills-designated wines from his estate grapes. This luscious Merlot opens with aromas of cedar, red currant, cumin and brown sugar, followed by flavors of red currant, red licorice, cherry and espresso. It is backed with rich tannins and bright acidity. The blend includes a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
