Walla Walla Vintners 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley, $38

By on August 19, 2014

Walla Walla Vintners 2011 Walla Walla Valley Cabernet SauvignonThis vintage marked the 10th anniversary under the red roof for winemaker William vonMetzger, and he pulls from 10 vineyards — including Pepper Bridge, Seven Hills and Walla Walla Vintners Estate — for this approachable Cab that incorporates all six major Bordeaux varieties. His choice of 57% percent new oak (dominated by French barrels) for 22 months creates a theme of blackberry, black cherry, cocoa and potting soil. Mild and fine-grain bittersweet chocolate tannins make this especially suave, and it received a silver medal at the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition.
