Three Rivers Winery 2012 Syrah, Walla Walla Valley, $39

three-rivers-winery-syrah-2012-bottleThere’s a sense of power and tension within this bottling featuring Syrah from Pepper Bridge Vineyard,  in part because there’s Petit Verdot (15%) off Seven Hills and Cabernet Sauvignon from Klipsun Vineyard on Red Mountain. Aromas of smoky oak, blueberry and pomegranate include toasted almond, cinnamon and white chocolate, which funnel into a bold and dense delivery of fresh-picked President plum, boysenberry and more pomegranate. Its substantial profile of tannin and acidity will play well with roasts and well-marbled steak.
