Tsillan Cellars-2014-GewürztraminerBest Buy! Shane Collins graduated from Washington State University prior to learning winemaking through Walla Walla Community College’s vaunted program, and immediately landed a job with Dr. Bob Jankelson at this showpiece winery along the south shore of Lake Chelan. Their estate vineyards have shined with aromatic white varieties from the start, and this latest example of Gewürztraminer continues that tradition, grabbing your attention with a gorgeous nose of lychee nut, pink grapefruit, apricot jam, rosewater and honeysuckle. That tropical theme plays out on the palate, yet it’s clean and dry from start to finish. Underlying minerality and a steady stream of acidity serve it well, leading to a finish of classic grapefruit bitterness. Suggested pairings include spicy Asian fare and a fruit-and-cheese plate.
